Founded by a loving married couple, Shimah Jay Homestays are a collection of lovingly crafted family homes that born from a shared dream of offering guests a serene sanctuary away from the city's hum.
Their passion for hospitality shows in every detail, from the heritage-rich lanes of Telok Mas to the famous seafood hub of Umbai, with breezy open layouts and family-first facilities. What are the check-in and check-out times?
Check-in is from 3:00 pm and check-out is by 12:00 pm. Earlier check-in or later check-out can often be arranged if the house is free — just ask us on WhatsApp the day before.
How do I confirm a booking?
The quickest way is WhatsApp and send your dates, the house you would like and the number of guests, and we will confirm availability and send payment details. A deposit secures the booking and the balance is settled on arrival. You can also book our Umbai or Telok Mas listings through Airbnb or Booking.com if you prefer, though booking direct gets you our best rate.
Is there a deposit, and is it refundable?
RM50 deposit confirms your dates. Cancel more than 14 days before check-in and the deposit is fully refundable. Inside 14 days we will do our best to move your booking to another date instead.
Are the houses suitable for large family gatherings?
Yes. Umbai 6 takes up to twelve guests and Umbai 5 up to ten, both with two bathrooms and large dining areas. Tell us your group size and we will recommend the right house.
Do you provide bedding and towels?
Every bed is made up with clean linen and pillows. Towels are provided on request that mention it when you book so we can set them out for you.
Can we cook in the house?
Absolutely, and we encourage it. Each house has a fitted kitchen with a cooker, fridge, rice cooker, kettle and full crockery. Several houses also have a separate wet kitchen for heavier cooking.
How far are the houses from Melaka city centre?
Telok Mas is roughly 15 minutes by car from Jonker Walk. The Umbai houses are about 25 minutes from the city centre and five minutes from the Umbai seafood village.
Are pets allowed?
We are not able to accept pets in any of the houses, so that we can keep them comfortable for guests with allergies.
